The Republican National Committee has announced that the news media will be barred from attending the Republican National Convention later this month. Never has this happened at any Presidential Convention in modern political history.

President Trump has had a hostile relationship with the press, deeming many news channels and vetted pieces "Fake News."

When asked why the press would be barred from the Convention to be held in Charlotte, NC on August 21-24, The RNC cited coronavirus concerns in the state. The following statement was issued:

“Given the health restrictions and limitations in place within the state of North Carolina, we are planning for the Charlotte activities to be closed [to] press Friday, August 21–Monday, August 24. We are happy to let you know if this changes, but we are working within the parameters set before us by state and local guidelines regarding the number of people who can attend events.”

According to many convention spokespeople, events to be held in Charlotte will be live-streamed for the public to view.
